Job 37:22 meaning and explanation

Out of the north He comes in golden splendor; awesome majesty surrounds Him.

Job 37:22, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Elihu is finishing his speech to Job, describing a storm rolling in from the north as a picture of God's approach. The Hebrew word for "north" here is tsaphon, which in Israel's poetry also carried the sense of God's hidden dwelling place, so the image works on two levels: a real weather front and a hint of the majesty that comes with the LORD.
