Joel 1:19 meaning and explanation

To You, O LORD, I call, for fire has consumed the open pastures and flames have scorched all the trees of the field.

Joel 1:19, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Joel has just described a locust plague so complete that four waves of insects leave nothing behind, and he has called priests and farmers to mourn. In verse 19 the prophet turns from addressing the people to addressing God directly, and the fire he names is likely the drought and scorching heat that followed the locusts, leaving no pasture or trees.
