Joel 2:13 meaning and explanation
So rend your hearts and not your garments, and return to the LORD your God. For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. And He relents from sending disaster.
Joel 2:13, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The LORD is speaking through the prophet Joel to Judah after a devastating locust plague, which he uses as a picture of the coming Day of the LORD. Tearing garments was a customary outward sign of grief, but God asks for something deeper: hearts torn open in honest repentance.
