Joel 2:20 meaning and explanation
The northern army I will drive away from you, banishing it to a barren and desolate land, its front ranks into the Eastern Sea, and its rear guard into the Western Sea. And its stench will rise; its foul odor will ascend. For He has done great things.
Joel 2:20, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
In Joel 2 the prophet speaks to Judah after describing a devastating locust plague that he pictures as the army of the Day of the LORD. Here God answers His people's repentance with a promise: the invader from the north will be driven far away, its front ranks pushed into the Eastern Sea (the Dead Sea) and its rear guard into the Western Sea (the Mediterranean), so that the land is cleansed.
