John 11:15 meaning and explanation

and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”

John 11:15, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is speaking to his disciples after deliberately waiting two days while Lazarus was dying. He has just told them plainly that Lazarus is dead, and now he explains his delay: he is glad he was not there, not because he is indifferent to grief, but because this will become a sign that strengthens their faith.
