Explanation preview
Jesus is praying to the Father in the hours before his arrest, and here he speaks about his own role in setting his disciples apart for God. To sanctify means to consecrate or dedicate, and Jesus devotes himself fully to the mission the Father gave him, a dedication that will carry him to the cross.
