Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus speaks these words in the temple courts, shortly after the episode of the woman caught in adultery and just before the Pharisees challenge His testimony. Light and darkness were familiar images in Israel's Scriptures, and the temple setting may also recall the great lamps of the Feast of Tabernacles.
