Joshua 10:27 meaning and explanation
At sunset Joshua ordered that they be taken down from the trees and thrown into the cave in which they had hidden. Then large stones were placed against the mouth of the cave, and the stones are there to this day.

Joshua has just executed the five Amorite kings who hid in a cave at Makkedah, and verse 27 closes that episode. Ancient custom left an executed body on a tree until evening, but Deuteronomy 21:22-23 required burial before sunset so the land would not remain defiled.
