This verse closes the list of towns assigned to the Gershonite clans, one of the three main Levite families descended from Levi's son Gershon. The Levites had no tribal territory of their own, so in Joshua 21 the other tribes gave them forty-eight cities with surrounding pastureland for their livestock.
