All this time you have not deserted your brothers, up to this very day, but have kept the charge given you by the LORD your God.

Joshua is speaking to the Reubenites, Gadites and half-tribe of Manasseh, whose land lay east of the Jordan. Before Israel crossed to conquer Canaan, these tribes had promised to send their fighting men ahead of their brothers and stay until the land was subdued.
