Joshua 6:3 meaning and explanation

March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.

Joshua 6:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD is speaking to Joshua after Israel has crossed the Jordan, before the assault on Jericho, the fortified city blocking their entry into the land. The command is strange on purpose: the army is to march around the city once a day for six days, with no siege works and no attack.
