Joshua 7:25 meaning and explanation

“Why have you brought this trouble upon us?” said Joshua. “Today the LORD will bring trouble upon you!” And all Israel stoned him to death. Then they stoned the others and burned their bodies.

Joshua 7:25, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Joshua speaks here as Israel's leader, pronouncing judgment on Achan after the stolen spoils were found in his tent. The wordplay is deliberate: Achan's name sounds like the Hebrew word for trouble, and the Valley of Achor means the valley of trouble.
