Jude writes as a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, addressing Christians he calls “called, loved by God the Father, and kept in Jesus Christ.” His greeting asks that mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to them. These three words echo the standard Jewish greeting of peace, shalom, and the early church’s blessing, but Jude makes them active gifts from God rather than wishes.
