For three hundred years Israel has lived in Heshbon, Aroer, and their villages, as well as all the cities along the banks of the Arnon. Why did you not take them back during that time?
Judges 11:26, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jephthah is negotiating with the king of the Ammonites, who has claimed that Israel seized his land when they came out of Egypt. Jephthah answers with a legal argument: Israel took this territory from Sihon king of the Amorites, not from Ammon or Moab, and has lived in Heshbon, Aroer and the surrounding towns for three hundred years.
