Judges 15:10 meaning and explanation

“Why have you attacked us?” said the men of Judah. The Philistines replied, “We have come to arrest Samson and pay him back for what he has done to us.”

Judges 15:10, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The Philistines have camped in Judah because Samson burned their grain and groves, and they answer the men of Judah plainly: they have come to arrest Samson and repay him. The exchange shows the political reality of the period, when Philistine power reached into Judahite territory and Judah had no standing army to resist it.
