Judges 19:24 meaning and explanation

Look, let me bring out my virgin daughter and the man’s concubine, and you can use them and do with them as you wish. But do not do such a vile thing to this man.”

Judges 19:24, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The old man of Gibeah speaks to a mob pounding on his door in a town where no one else offered the travelers shelter. His words reflect the ancient custom of hospitality, in which a guest's safety was the host's sacred duty, but he applies it in a horrifying way, offering his virgin daughter and the Levite's concubine to be abused in place of his guest.
