Judges 20:5 meaning and explanation

And during the night, the men of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house. They intended to kill me, but they abused my concubine, and she died.

Judges 20:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The Levite is speaking before Israel’s assembled tribes at Mizpah, recounting what happened in Gibeah. His account is shorter and softer than the story told in chapter 19, where the mob demanded him and he pushed his concubine out to them.
