Sisera, commander of King Jabin's army, has just learned that Barak has gathered troops on Mount Tabor, as Deborah had instructed in verses 6 and 7. The report sets the trap in motion: God had promised to draw Sisera out to the River Kishon, and the news of Barak's position prompts Sisera to summon his nine hundred iron chariots.
