Judges 5:12 meaning and explanation

‘Awake, awake, O Deborah! Awake, awake, sing a song! Arise, O Barak, and take hold of your captives, O son of Abinoam!’

Judges 5:12, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Deborah and Barak have just won a decisive victory over the Canaanite commander Sisera, and in this victory song the people call out to their leaders. The doubled "Awake, awake" is a Hebrew poetic way of urging Deborah to rouse herself and sing, and Barak to rise and take hold of the captives his victory has given him.
