Judges 9:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jotham, the only surviving son of Jerubbaal, tells this parable from Mount Gerizim to the leaders of Shechem, who have just crowned his murderous brother Abimelech king. In the story the trees invite the fig tree to reign, but it refuses, asking whether it should give up its sweetness and good fruit merely to hold sway.
