Lamentations 3:37 meaning and explanation
Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it?
Lamentations 3:37, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The speaker is the man of verses 1 and 40, a survivor of Jerusalem's destruction, voicing grief in the first person and sometimes on behalf of the whole people. In this stanza he reasons about God's sovereignty: no word or event takes effect unless the Lord has ordained it, and verse 38 adds that both adversity and good come from his mouth.
