Leviticus 10:19 meaning and explanation

But Aaron replied to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. Since these things have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?”

Leviticus 10:19, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Aaron is answering Moses, who was angry that the sin offering had been burned rather than eaten. Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu had just died for offering unauthorized fire, and Aaron says the day’s offerings had been presented amid that grief.
