Leviticus 11:7 meaning and explanation

And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.

Leviticus 11:7, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD is speaking to Moses and Aaron, who are to pass these food laws on to the Israelites freshly freed from Egypt. The pig meets half the test for a clean land animal, a fully split hoof, but it does not chew the cud, so it fails the second half and is declared unclean (tame, in Hebrew).
