Leviticus 19:20 meaning and explanation
If a man lies carnally with a slave girl promised to another man but who has not been redeemed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. But they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.
Leviticus 19:20, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
This case law addresses a slave girl pledged to another man but not yet redeemed or freed, so her legal status was ambiguous. The man who lies with her commits a wrong that requires due punishment, yet the two are not put to death because she was not a free woman.
