Leviticus 19:6 meaning and explanation

It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it, or on the next day; but what remains on the third day must be burned up.

Leviticus 19:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God gives this instruction to Moses for the whole congregation of Israel, regulating the peace offering, a voluntary sacrifice shared by the worshiper, the priests and God. The meat had to be eaten on the day of sacrifice or the next day, and anything left until the third day was burned rather than eaten, since it had passed the time when it could be accepted as holy.
