Luke 11:1 meaning and explanation
One day in a place where Jesus had just finished praying, one of His disciples requested, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
Luke 11:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The request comes from an unnamed disciple who has watched Jesus pray, likely in Galilee during the journey toward Jerusalem. Jewish teachers commonly gave their students set prayers, and John the Baptist had done the same for his followers, so the disciple asks for a distinctive prayer of their own.
