Luke 12:37 meaning and explanation

Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.

Luke 12:37, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is speaking to His disciples about readiness for His return, continuing the parable of servants waiting for their master to come back from a wedding banquet. In that culture a master would not normally serve his own servants, so the image is deliberately striking: he dresses himself for service, seats them at his table, and waits on them.
