After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’

Explanation preview
Someone in the crowd has asked Jesus whether only a few will be saved, and Jesus answers with the narrow door and the master of the house. The scene is a first-century home at evening: the door is shut, the household is inside, and knocking comes too late.
