Luke places this man directly in front of Jesus at a Sabbath meal in the home of a leading Pharisee, where the guests are watching Jesus closely (verses 1 and 3). Dropsy, a condition of swelling from retained fluid, was a visible and chronic illness, and healing it could wait a day.
