Luke 16:18 meaning and explanation
Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Luke 16:18, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees, who have just scoffed at his teaching about money (Luke 16:14), and he sets out the standard of the Law on marriage. In Jewish practice a husband could divorce his wife for a range of reasons, and Jesus insists that remarriage after such a divorce is adultery.
