Luke 17:10 meaning and explanation

So you also, when you have done everything commanded of you, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Luke 17:10, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus speaks to his disciples after a short parable about a servant who plows all day and then serves his master's meal before eating his own. The master does not owe thanks for ordinary duty, and Jesus draws the lesson: obedience to God is what is owed, not a favor that puts God in debt.
