Jesus is telling the parable of the ten minas (a mina was a unit of money) on the road near Jericho, just before entering Jerusalem. The crowd expected God's kingdom to appear at once, so Jesus pictures a nobleman who leaves to receive a kingdom and entrusts his wealth to servants in the meantime.
