Luke 2:21 meaning and explanation
When the eight days until His circumcision had passed, He was named Jesus, the name the angel had given Him before He had been conceived.
Luke 2:21, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Eight days after the birth, the child is circumcised, as the Law of Moses required for every Israelite male, and receives the name Jesus, which the angel had given before conception. Luke has already told us the name means salvation, since the angel said to Joseph, "you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." The naming at circumcision marks Him as a son of the covenant, obedient to the Law from His earliest days.
