Luke 21:12 meaning and explanation

But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. On account of My name they will deliver you to the synagogues and prisons, and they will bring you before kings and governors.

Luke 21:12, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is speaking to his disciples on the Mount of Olives, answering their question about when the temple will be destroyed. In verse 12 he turns from the coming upheavals to what will happen to them first: arrest, persecution, and trials before synagogues, prisons, kings and governors, all because of his name.
