Luke 3:9 meaning and explanation
The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
Luke 3:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
John the Baptist is speaking to the crowds who came out to be baptized, and he has just warned them not to rely on their descent from Abraham. His image is drawn from an orchard: an axe already resting at the root of a tree means judgment is near and no further waiting remains.
