Luke 6:37 meaning and explanation

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

Luke 6:37, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is speaking to a large crowd of disciples and ordinary people who have come to hear and be healed (Luke 6:17-19), continuing the teaching he began with blessings and woes. The Greek word krino, "judge," here means passing a condemning verdict on others, and it is paired with katadikazo, "condemn." Jesus links both to forgiving, and each carries a promise: the measure we give shapes the measure we receive.
