Luke 6:48 meaning and explanation

He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

Luke 6:48, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is closing the Sermon on the Plain, and he has just asked why people call him Lord without doing what he says. Here he pictures the person who hears his words and puts them into practice as a builder who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock, in contrast with the builder in the next verse who skipped the foundation.
