Luke 6:9 meaning and explanation

Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”

Luke 6:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus asks this question in a synagogue on the Sabbath, with the scribes and Pharisees watching to see whether He will heal a man with a withered hand so they can accuse Him. His question exposes the flaw in their reasoning: by plotting against Him while refusing to help a suffering man, they were the ones doing evil on the holy day.
