Luke 9:48 meaning and explanation

And He said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes the One who sent Me. For whoever is the least among all of you, he is the greatest.”

Luke 9:48, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The disciples have just been arguing about which of them is greatest, and Jesus answers by placing a little child beside Him. In that culture a child had no status and could offer nothing in return, so welcoming one was an act of humility.
