Mark 13:30 meaning and explanation

Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened.

Mark 13:30, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is speaking privately to Peter, James, John and Andrew on the Mount of Olives, answering their question about when the temple's destruction will come and what sign will precede it. He has just described tribulation, false messiahs and cosmic upheaval, then adds a solemn "truly I tell you." The Greek word genea means the generation then living, though some read it as the Jewish people or the age of the church.
