While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it; this is My body.”

Jesus speaks these words at the Passover meal in the upper room, with the Twelve reclining around the table. Taking the bread, he blesses God for it, breaks it, and gives it to his disciples, and the Greek word for "this" (touto) points to the bread he is handing them.
