Jesus is speaking to Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem who have challenged His disciples about washing hands before eating. He contrasts God's command to honor father and mother with a tradition of the elders: if a man declares something Corban, a gift devoted to God, he may keep it rather than use it to support his parents.
