Matthew 12:32 meaning and explanation

Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the one to come.

Matthew 12:32, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is answering Pharisees who have just attributed His healing of a demon possessed man to Beelzebul, the prince of demons. In that setting He distinguishes between speaking against the Son of Man, which can be forgiven, and speaking against the Holy Spirit, which will not be forgiven in this age or the one to come.
