Matthew 14:28 meaning and explanation
“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.”
Matthew 14:28, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Peter speaks these words during a storm on the Sea of Galilee, after the disciples have seen Jesus walking on the water and cried out in fear. His "if it is You" echoes Jesus' own words of reassurance in verse 27, where the Greek ego eimi, "I am," recalls God's self-revelation in Exodus.
