Matthew 16:12 meaning and explanation

Then they understood that He was not telling them to beware of the leaven used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Matthew 16:12, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The disciples had crossed the lake and realized they had forgotten bread, so when Jesus warned them about the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees they took it literally and began arguing about loaves. Jesus corrected them by recalling the feedings of the five thousand and the four thousand, which showed He could provide bread whenever He chose.
