Matthew 26:57 meaning and explanation
Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and elders had gathered.
Matthew 26:57, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
After the arrest in Gethsemane, the armed crowd takes Jesus to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and elders have already gathered. Matthew is showing that this is not a random mob but an arranged meeting of Israel's leaders, the Sanhedrin, held at night and away from the temple courts where Jesus had taught openly.
