Matthew 3:5 meaning and explanation
People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region around the Jordan.
Matthew 3:5, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Matthew presents John the Baptist preaching in the Judean wilderness, and this verse sums up the response: crowds streamed out from Jerusalem, from all Judea, and from the whole region around the Jordan. The phrasing is sweeping, the kind of summary a Gospel writer uses to signal a movement rather than a single congregation.
