The devil has taken Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple and urged Him to throw Himself down, quoting Scripture to suggest God would send angels to catch Him. Jesus answers with another verse, drawn from Deuteronomy 6:16, where Israel tested God at Massah by demanding proof of His presence.
