Matthew 5:15 meaning and explanation
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Jesus is speaking to His disciples on the mountain, continuing the image from verse 14 where He calls them the light of the world. A small clay lamp burned olive oil and gave modest light, so where it was placed mattered.
