Nahum 2:11 meaning and explanation

Where is the lions’ lair or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled with their cubs, with nothing to frighten them away?

Nahum 2:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Nahum 2:11 is a taunt sung over Nineveh, the Assyrian capital, after the vision of its fall in the preceding verses. The prophet pictures the city as a lions' den, and the image fits Assyria well: its kings hunted lions and carved them on palace walls, and Assyria had prowled among the nations, mauling prey for its cubs and storing up plunder with nothing to frighten it away.
